Krista Shapla Hand Made Jewelry

Krista makes jewelry from recycled, new, and natural elements, along with her own photography and artwork. Her work consists of vintage images, butterfly wings, and aintique textiles sandwiched between layers of glass. Each piece is soldered with lead-free, silver alloy solder for high shine and safe handeling. Recycled window glass or bottle glass is used for the front.

Stained glass is used for the reverse of each pendant. Earrings are made with vintage candy tins as oppose to heavier materials. All earrings are made with sterling silver leverbacks. Kristi has been making jewelry for over five years now.

Tim is an MFA trained artist with over 36 year of experience. Each piece is handcrafted using the ancient millefiori technique inspired by contrasts and rhythms of color found in the details of the artist’s world.

Created in a woodland studio outside of Durham, NC

I create my jewelry using numerous ceramic and metal techniques-slip trailing and brushing, stenciling, forming, and etching. The extreme detail and intens ecolor in my ceramic work results from the use of over 500 different colors of clay in an ancient technique known as millefiori. In this technique, carefully designed leaves of clay are formed from colored porcelains. Next, cross-sections are sliced from the loaves, and these sections are shaped and finished into individual pieces.

We make beauty from dust — a joy for us, and, we hope, a joy for you.
